I created this website in 2003 as an anonymous, provocative essay on the state of the internet, at the height of the second dotcom bubble.

It received more than twenty million unique visitors, hundreds of emails in response, and been commented on by thousands of blogposts and comments.

For several years before Google personalized people's results, it was the top search result for the word "shit", providing an unexpectedly thoughtful moment for those who enjoy typing swearwords into computers.

The collected responses have been compiled and may be published one day in book form – or perhaps online.
